We, EHED Caritas Trincomalee, conducted a training session on pond fish culture on March 5th, 2025 at T/Kn/Barakath Nagar Muslim Vidyalayam, Kinniya. The session aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge of sustainable fish farming, improve local fish production, and introduce best practices in pond management.
The training was facilitated by Mr. T. Jeyakaran, an Aqua culture Extension Officer (AEO) from Trincomalee Kachcheri. The program covered key aspects of fish farming, including species selection, pond preparation, feeding techniques, disease control, and market strategies with the 120 male participants attended the training, showing great interest in applying the knowledge gained.
They requested further hands-on demonstrations and support in acquiring fish fingerlings and financial assistance. The resource person emphasized the need for proper pond management and suggested follow-up training sessions. Future plans include forming small-scale fish farming groups, securing resources through local authorities, conducting advanced training, and establishing market linkages for fish produce. The session was well-received, and additional support will be provided to ensure successful implementation.
